Project Description

Goddard Consulting collaborated with Peregrine Bryant on a number of projects at the Royal Hospital Chelsea (RHC). The RHC is a retirement and nursing home which provides accommodation and care for over 300 British Army veterans, known as the ‘Chelsea Pensioners’. The historic building was commissioned in the 1600s by King Charles II, and has undergone a number of refurbishment and conservation projects.

The hospital underwent a number of improvements, including refurbishments to the existing Soane Stable Block courtyard and workshop area buildings, replacement of existing garages and refurbishment of the adjacent Pavilion building, and construction of a new two-storey ‘hobbies’ building.

The new Soane Stable Yard has since been shortlisted for the AJ Retrofit & Reuse Awards 2025, in the category ‘Adaptive Reuse into Other’, and in the Heritage Category for the RICS UK Awards 2025.

Goddard Consulting were CDM Principal Designer Advisers and Client Advisers for projects at the RHC.
