Project Description

The £600m Transformation Programme at London Stansted Airport is the airport’s biggest single investment since its inception in 1943. Central to the transformation project is a new £130 million arrivals terminal which is due to open in 2020. The 34,000 sqm building will feature a modular sky-lit roof above the double height space, containing enhanced immigration and baggage reclaim areas, spacious arrivals concourse and welcoming public forecourt.

The existing building will be transformed into a departures-only terminal, freeing up space to create 134 check-in desks plus more seating, shops, bars and restaurants. Stansted are investing £40 million on a brand-new security and baggage delivery system which will be housed beneath the terminal, speeding up the time it takes for bags to travel from check-in to aircraft. The transformation will also bring new airside coaching facilities, 24 aircraft parking stands, taxiway infrastructure and car parking facilities, allowing the airport to accommodate new airlines as it grows.

Goddard Consulting are the appointed Principal Designer Advisers for the project, assisting Pascall+Watson, with their duties up to RIBA Stage 3.
